Schubert’s Miraculous Last Year
Thursday, August 10th, 7:00pm
CIA at Copia
Brilliantly prolific while terribly ill, Schubert’s flurry of final works transcended the terrible suffering he endured. Curated by Artistic Director Michael Adams and assisted by festival musicians, this program will sample from the works of Schubert’s miraculous last year, including the “cello” quintet, the two piano trios, and his final piano sonatas. Click here to learn more and book tickets.
Not So Silent Cinema
Two classic silent films, with original music by Stephen Prutsman performed by festival musicians, recreate the cinema experience of 100 years ago, before recorded sound was integrated into filmmaking in the 1920s. This year’s program features The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari a 1920 German silent horror film, directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema. And College (a Buster Keaton comedy). Buster Keaton is considered one of the greatest comic actors of all time. His influence on physical comedy is rivaled only by Charlie Chaplin. College (1927) demonstrates Keaton’s singular talent for physical comedy.
