Two classic silent films, with original music by Stephen Prutsman performed by festival musicians, recreate the cinema experience of 100 years ago, before recorded sound was integrated into filmmaking in the 1920s. This year’s program features The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari a 1920 German silent horror film, directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema. And College (a Buster Keaton comedy). Buster Keaton is considered one of the greatest comic actors of all time. His influence on physical comedy is rivaled only by Charlie Chaplin. College (1927) demonstrates Keaton’s singular talent for physical comedy.
