Festival Season

Napa Valley Chamber Music Festival

July 28–August 20, 2023

29th Annual Season

Dear Friends and Music Lovers,

Welcome to the 29th season of Music in the Vineyards! We have a great festival planned, which will take place over four weekends instead of our usual three. This allows us the opportunity to add special events such as our Not-So-Silent Cinema and our first-ever Concert for the Community in addition to our regular festival concerts. Also notable are two illuminating talks by familiar faces, one about Stravinsky and the other about Schubert on subsequent Thursday nights.

After a survey of our audience last year, one of the overwhelming requests was a desire to have the evening concerts begin earlier. Due to popular demand, our evening concerts will begin at 7:00 pm instead of 7:30 pm. (Don’t be late!) And this year, for the first time in 29 years—drum roll please—we will be issuing actual tickets! When we process your order, you will get an email from us with a barcode ticket for you to print at home or display on your phone.

Among the highlights of season 29 are two remarkable string quartets making their MITV debuts: the Catalyst Quartet and the Calidore Quartet. Both have thriving international careers and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Napa Valley. The Telegraph Quartet returns for a week-in residence, after their debut last summer as part of our first Not-So-Silent Cinema. Also returning is superstar violinist Tessa Lark in a one-night-only Esterhazy Concert at a magnificent Napa winery estate.

We are excited to premiere a work that MITV co-commissioned from notable L.A.-based composer John Wineglass (his real name)! John will attend the final rehearsals and the performance of his quintet for piano and strings in our first weekend, and you will have an opportunity to meet him at our Musician Mingle after the concert.

Our 2023 Fellowship String Quartet, chosen through national auditions, is the Lírios Quartet, who will be in-residence for three weeks. You will see them on stage alongside MITV musicians, as well as in your neighborhood, performing for children and Napa residents up and down the valley.

We look forward to seeing you at a concert and raising a glass of wine at intermission to celebrate 29 years of exhilarating music in the Napa Valley.

See you soon!
