Dvořák encouraged American composers to find inspiration in Native American and African American sources, as he had modeled in his New World Symphony and works that borrowed from Bohemian folk traditions. The Maple Quartet and host Michael Adams will illustrate the importance of folk sources in the world of classical music.
This program features excerpts from Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Quartet and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout.
