Rebecca Young joined the N.Y. Philharmonic in 1986 as its youngest female member ever and has been the orchestra’s Associate Principal Viola since 1991. For the past 18 years, she has been the host of the orchestra’s Very Young People’s Concerts, for which she won the 2019 Ford Musician’s Award for Outstanding Community Service. Ms. Young is also Principal Viola of the Emmy Award-winning All Star Orchestra, televised on PBS. Among other recordings, she can be heard in the iconic performance of Schubert’s Trout Quintet with Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, Pamela Frank and Edgar Meyer on the Sony Classical label.
Ms. Young frequently records for television and film, including In The Heights, West Side Story and The Devil Wears Prada II and has performed and recorded with an extensive list of artists, from Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli to Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Sting, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion and many other classical and pop stars.
