James Ferree

Horn

James Ferree became the Principal Horn of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2024, and in the same year became the newest member of the American Horn Quartet. Praised by the Star Tribune for horn playing that is “deliciously mellow” and “captivating,” he previously served as Principal Horn of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony, and has appeared as Guest Principal with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, and more.

An active soloist, Ferree has appeared with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, Masterworks Festival, Music in the Mountains, New World Symphony, and the Juilliard School.

A dedicated composer and arranger, he continues the American Horn Quartet’s tradition of expanding the horn quartet repertoire. His works have been performed across the United States, with notable premieres by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, and Salt Bay Chamberfest.
