In the Community
String Quartet Fellowship Program
2021 was the third year of Music in the Vineyards’ Apprentice String Quartet Program, designed to identify and nurture an emerging pre-professional ensemble. This year’s winner, chosen by national audition, is Illinois-based Solideo Quartet. To further Music in the Vineyards’ commitment to community engagement and to increase accessibility to chamber music, Solideo Quartet will perform free concerts in retirement communities, Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs, the Veterans Home, and other venues in the Napa Valley Community, as well as collaborate with MITV musicians. The Apprentice String Quartet Program is supported by the Napa Valley Performing Arts Foundation with matching funds from generous donors to our Community Outreach Program.
In 2022, this program will evolve into the String Quartet Fellowship Program. Click here to learn more!
Solo Instrumental Competition
2021 was the eighth year of our competition for young instrumentalists in grades 10-12 residing in the greater Bay Area. Winners are awarded a cash prize plus the opportunity to perform at a recital as part of the festival. During 2020 and 2021 the competition is being run online with video performances submitted by participants. Please Click Here for full details and information on how to apply for our Youth Solo Instrumental Competition.
Scholarship Program
This program is designed to help promising young music students in the Napa Valley keep up with the cost of music lessons. In partnership with the Napa Valley Youth Symphony we provide funds to cover the cost of one year of music lessons for deserving high school musicians who are members of the Orchestra.
Free Open Rehearsals
When our festival is live, we offer open rehearsals throughout the festival free of charge for the community. These open rehearsals prove to be really popular every year and aim to give patrons an insight into how the musicians prepare for their performances. Held on Thursday afternoons, the open rehearsals feature repertoire which is to be performed in concerts on the weekend following the rehearsals. We usually have rehearsals taking place in at least two rooms and patrons are welcome to move from room to room during the afternoon. Everyone is welcome regardless of age, there is plenty of seating and the musicians look forward to sharing their work with you.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are unable to provide access to our rehearsal facility this year. We are hoping to live stream some of the rehearsals from the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center so check back here on our website for further details.
Pre-Concert Talks
Due to the limitations of seating in our venues, and to aid with social distancing we are unable to offer our free pre-concert talks this year, however; Michael Adams will still be presenting full information on each program during the concerts.
We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to these community events in 2022!
