2022 Festival
Save-the-Dates:
28th Annual Chamber Music Festival
August 3 - 21, 2022 |
Welcome to the 28th season of Music in the Vineyards festival! We are very excited to return to ‘normal’ this summer with exhilarating concerts in stunning winery settings, an experience only found in the Napa Valley.
The turbulent 2020’s have affected us all and have influenced how we program Music in the Vineyards. This summer for example, our focus turns again to underrepresented composers, including female and BIPOC musicians who have been sadly overlooked. You will be delighted to discover works that have been in hiding for far too long! We will also feature the world premiere of one of our favorite musicians, pianist Michael Brown, who is writing a work for cello solo and strings for his long-time collaborator, cellist Nicholas Canellakis.
Another focus will be works written ‘in memoriam’, music written with the passing of a loved one in mind. As we write this, Russia is bombing Ukraine and its citizens are suffering mightily—so we perform these pieces for all who have suffered and lost loved ones during these past few years.
Four remarkable string quartets will be in-residence in August—the Pacifica, Maxwell and Escher Quartets will be joined by the Telegraph Quartet, who will provide the soundtrack for our first ever Not-So-Silent Movie night! Three classic “silents” will feature original music by pianist Stephen Prutsman, a past MITV guest artist.
Through national auditions, we have chosen the Ivalas Quartet to be our 2022 Fellowship String Quartet. Ivalas will be in-residence for the entire 3 weeks of the festival where you will see them on stage alongside MITV musicians, as well as in your neighborhood, performing at children’s clubs and senior centers around the valley.
We look forward to seeing you at a concert and raising a glass of wine at intermission. With our audience and musicians together again, this is sure to be a Festival not to be missed!
Our full program will be released in May with ticket sales beginning at the end of the month.
See you soon!
