2017 Solo Instrumental Competition
2017 was the third year of our competition for young instrumentalists in grades 10 – 12 residing in Napa, Solano and Sonoma and the surrounding counties. Winners are awarded a cash prize plus the opportunity to perform at a pre-concert recital as part of the festival on Friday, August 18th at 6:30pm, at Silverado Vineyards. The 2017 final was held on March 12, on the stage of the Lincoln Theater and the three winners were:
First Place: Claire Cheng, piano
Second Place: Anwen Lin,cello
Third Place: Katie Gu, piano

Join us for our annual competition Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 4:00PM at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville to compete for one of these fabulous prizes:
1st place - $1,000 2nd place - $750 3rd place - $500
In addition, each year, the winners will be invited to performed in a pre-concert recital on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at Silverado Vineyards as part of the Music in the Vineyards 2017 Festival Season. Every August for the past twenty-two years, MITV has been performing fine chamber music throughout the Napa Valley.

You will be asked to perform two contrasting pieces from the classical music repertoire, unaccompanied, each 2-5 minutes in length. You will also be required to attend the awards ceremony following the competition, where all competitors will receive comments from our judges and a prize certificate. Prize money will be presented during the pre-concert recital at Silverado Vineyards on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 6:30PM.
Merit Award Criteria
- Applications will be accepted from instrumentalists only, not vocalists.
- Applicant must be in grades ten, eleven or twelve and a resident of Napa, Sonoma or Solano County.
- Applicant must study classical music.
- A $10 fee is payable upon submission of application. This can be paid by check or credit card.

The 2016 final was held on February 21, on the stage of the Lincoln Theater and the three winners were:
First Place: Kenneth Shinn, piano
Second Place: Calvin Jin, violin
Third Place: Maggie Carpenter, violin
The winners’ pre-concert recital took place on Friday, August 12th, 6.30pm at Silverado Vineyards.
